Day 31
Went to look at model homes with my sister and soon to be brother in law. I think they might be getting a home. Fingers crossed. We spent about 5 hours looking and that put money down to reserve a new home. A few days ago they were looking at apartments, and now they are more than likely going to buy a house. I am so happy for them! And so glad that I am not buying a house. It so stressful and amazing and mind blowing. We were already calling it their house. So fingers crossed on the VA loan going through.
I can't believe that it is the end of January already! I took a photo a day, which means that I get to buy myself something. Using rewards to keep going means that I actually want to take pictures every day.

Day 30
Went to visit my Grandma today in Carlsbad. It was pretty nice and it was definitely one of her better days.

Day 29
Today was my Dad's 62nd birthday. Gesh. I remember when he turned 50 and had to go to the hospital for surgery. I don't think I quite understood at the time what was going on. He had to have his Gallbladder removed. I can't even remember how long he was in the hospital for, I just knew that I missed him. I would kiss my fingers and then push them up against his picture in the hall. I even prayed. (and I'm not all that religious)

Day 28
Today.. was one of those days when you feel as if you've driven everywhere... and yet I still managed to forget to go to the bank. I guess it is a good thing when you don't actually have to worry about depositing a check, right?

Day 26
"We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”
Had a bit of trouble today... my memory card stopped working! Had to steal the micro SD card from my cell phone and put it in an adapter and then put it in the camera. Its a 16GB card so I am gonna send it in to get repaired. I haven't even had the card for a month yet. Hopefully I won't have to buy a new one.

Day 25
As soon as I got home from work I went to my desk and started doing homework. Four hours later, I am not finished. I'm giving myself about 20 min and then I am heading to bed cos I have to wake up too early to stay up late and finish homework. Why must I always go out on the weekends? It means last minute cramming on Monday nights.
Back to the raft

Day 24
Went on the spur of the moment Disneyland trip. The first one since I got a pass. I wanted to try one of these, but sadly, I didn't have a penny. Next time, I am gonna make sure I have 7 cents on me so I can look at all of them. The vignetting is natural, from a lens hood that I was using and I thought it went with the theme of the photo.. so I added a tiny bit more. Then I did some cross processing... I have to say, I like the effect more than the original photo.

Day 22
How much is that doggie in the window
Seeing my dog looking out the window reminds me of the song "How much is that doggie in the window?" My mom used to sing it all the time when we went to Souplantation for dinner because next door there was a shop with a fake dog in the window.
How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie is for sale
I must take a trip to California
And leave my poor sweetheart alone
If he has a dog, he won't be lonesome
And the doggie will have a good home
How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie is for sale
I read in the papers, there are robbers
With flash lights that shine in the dark
My love needs a doggie to protect him
And scare them away with one bark
I don't want a bunny or a kitty
I don't want a parrot that talks
I don't want a bowl of little fishies
You can't take a goldfish for walks
How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie is for sale

Day 21
Weather is a great metaphor for life - sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, and there's nothing much you can do about it but carry an umbrella. ~Pepper Giardino
Still raining. I think it is hailing right now. Tomorrow and Saturday.... more rain. There is one good thing about that--I love the rain.

Day 20
On the way home from work, it started to snow and despite the dark weather, the fact that I couldn't use the flash, I couldn't change the settings, and couldn't stop and leave the car... I ended up with this... which I actually love.
We were stopped at a stop light when I took this and to me it has this sort of old school charm. It almost looks like a photo from when my parents were my age. I like the color too.. it just looks cold. I thought about sharpening the photo so that you could see that there was actually some snow falling, but I didn't like it as much. I added some vignetting to the photo because it seemed fitting.
But snow sucks when you have to go home in it... I am just glad I wasn't driving. It took us double the time to get home because we were going about 20 miles on the freeway. Then we got down the hill and it started to rain, so we went a whole 40 miles an hour.
But it was cool.. gave me about an hour to watch the snow and attempt to take pictures.
On an unrelated side note... today my dad was watching me take pictures and he said "I can tell you are a good photographer by the way you take pictures." hehe. my daddy thinks I'm good. Then again he often tells me I'm a good singer. I'm decent at that but a long way from good.

Day 19
Catch Phrase of the Week: "Winter Storm Watch"
Sometime between 12 and 1:30 it started pouring in San Bernardino. By the time I got out of class, some of the streets were flooded and at a few points I felt as if I had lost control of the car (thankfully only for a second). I got on the freeway and thought that I was relatively safe. I passed under an overpass and I started to notice that the slow lane (which of course I was in) was flooded. There was so much water from the on ramp up ahead that it went over the curb that was separating the freeway and the on ramp and flooded the entire slow lane. Needless to say, I got over. I spent the rest of the drive home in the middle or fast lanes because I was terrified of hydroplaning if I went into the slow lane. I am definitely glad I car pool to work because I have to work in Hesperia tomorrow and the weather is undoubtedly worse up there. If I had to drive alone, I wouldn't go to work tomorrow.
I know it sounds like some kid terrified of the rain. But I love the rain... its just that I can't see in it. I have to wear glasses for distance and I need a new prescription! I've driven home from school in worse weather.. but I wanted to cry that night. It was about 7pm--a few hours after the sun went down. It was pouring down buckets of rain and I was driving behind a truck for half the way with the spouts of water hitting my windshield faster than the windshield whippers could work. The road was covered in fog and the wind kept pushing me out of my lane so my fingers were gripping the wheel so tight, it felt like they might fall off. And despite the fact that it was cold and dreary outside I was sweating. Lightening lit up the sky at regular intervals and the thunder shook me to my bones. All I needed was a mini tornado (which they are possible today near the coast) and I would have thrown my little pink beanie down, pulled over to the side of the road and say Lord take me now.
I guess I am just lucky it doesn't snow here. I would find something else to be scared of. Wind, ice and rain... the trifecta.

Day 17
Today was definitely interesting. The septic tank overflowed (even though it was pumped 4 months ago). Which meant.. I didn't get to take a shower today. Someone is coming to fix it tomorrow... which means I will have the most amazing shower come morning.Still raining right now and it will for the next few days. Might even snow at work. Which just sound cold to me!

Day 14
Little lady outside of our house near the pond. I love how pretty she is. And It kinda shows how I felt today. I am not sure if this is one of those pictures that you can look back and say, hey thats what I did today.. but if I took a picture of that it would be of one building on campus.. which is not all that interesting. Or it could be the stack of papers I had to look through for homework. Three pictures in a row of school work... not that interesting. True to life, yes, but not terribly interesting

Day 12
If people were meant to pop out of bed, we'd all sleep in toasters. ~Author unknown, attributed to Jim Davis
I don't know about you, but I am definitely not a morning person. When I was in High School and the first year of college, I would wake up at 5:30 to take my dad to the van pool so he could go to work and I could use the car all day. After I got home I went straight back to bed, even if I had to wake up in 30 minutes. To me, those 30 extra minutes were worth it. My sister's fiance wakes up for work at 2:30am! Sometimes I am just getting home when his alarm clock goes off. Me, I hate alarms (and waking up at normal times like 6:00 or 6:30-- I hate waking up at expected times) so I got myself an alarm that plays CDs so that I can wake up to my favorite song. Only problem... I only ever listen to the first 30 seconds of the song before I get out of bed.

Day 8, 9 and 10
Day 9 was a trip to the beach. I told my friend that I wanted to take pictures of the beach and we spent the entire day exploring the coves in La Jolla and a few other beaches. My favorite shot was one her with the beach in the background. I think it is better for a project like this because I spent the day with her. I love how the background almost looks fake.
Day 10 was a long day. I spent half of it at a bridal expo helping my sister figure out stuff for her wedding. This is what she wants. Three bridesmaids. One wearing pink, one orange, and one yellow. She wants gerbera daisies and maybe some oranges in the water.

Day Seven
This next photo I really liked too, so I thought I would put it on my blog. I like the first one better, but there is something about this photo that I like. Perhaps it is because it is a picture of my mother..

Day Six
Today.. I took a picture of my new camera and the lenses that I just got yesterday. The Nikon D3000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. I actually like it. It doesn't have live view when you are taking the photo, but that just drains the battery anyway. Many people see that as a downside, but I don't really need live view.. you can see the picture after you take it. I also got Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras and the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon Digital SLR. And a few other gadgets. An extra battery, 16 GB memory card, lens hoods, filters, shutter release button, lens cleaner kit, and a few miscellaneous things I can't think of right now.
The picture doesn't seem all that exciting, but the point of this project is to document life and that right there is something important that happened in my life. Hope everyone who is currently doing a 365 project is still going strong. : )

Day Five
Since my camera came today I went with one of my best friends down to the park and took pictures of her blowing bubbles. We are both still children at heart. A lot of the pictures that I took came out pretty good too. I might put them up on flickr.
“A smile starts on the lips, A grin spreads to the eyes, A chuckle comes from the belly; But a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, Overflows, and bubbles all around”

Photo a Day; Day one
It shows the optimism that everyone seems to have at the beginning of a new year. At least, that is what I was going for.
